Summer Season News

November 19, 2019

It's been a busy season here at D J Haggett, Devon and Westcountry Event Catering! We've had a fantastic summer supplying catering at a wide range of events across Devon and across borders into Cornwall and Somerset.

It’s been great to revisit our favourite venues, such as the Oak Barn, Ashridge Barn, Powderham Castle and Huntsham Court. We’ve also discovered a few new venues: Beaconside House, for example, is a new gem in Bideford, North Devon. We very much look forward to serving clients who have booked catering with us when they marry at Beaconside next year. Marquee weddings remain very popular, promising that unique experience on private land. We love attending these sites, which are often set at beautiful locations offering that bespoke wedding. This year was a particularly special one for us - two children got married within eight weeks of each other! And we provided the catering of course! Both events were a resounding success and we were privilaged to be able to contribute to their day.

In addition to our wedding and party catering, we’ve been delighted to develop our corporate catering service. For several years we’ve proudly provided catering for over 300 people at multiple staff events at The University of Exeter. Every year we also provide food for the monks at Buckfast Abbey, their friends and families. The weather was atrocious this year; the heavens opened, but they all had a convivial time and were well-fed nonetheless! We’ve also served roast pork and stuffing to a workforce of 300, on the McAlpine construction site, Belgrave Road in Exeter. Wearing a hard hat while cooking was a new experience for Dave! Our staff are skilled and experienced, so you can rely on us to serve exceptional food with efficiency to large numbers.

Our core menus remain broadly the same, but we’ve introduced some new additions – always focusing on generous portions and top-quality, local ingredients. Our charcuterie serving platters have proved to be very popular starters, and Dave’s award-winning sausages in honey dip remain a firm favourite from the canapé menu! We’ve also expanded our sea-food, vegetarian and vegan options – whatever your dietary requirements you can be sure that we’ll provide a fantastic menu. Contact us for more details.

Winter bookings seem popular this year and Dave is busy with catering for roast meats and carveries – plus the usual festive bookings for the Christmas and New Year season. We enjoy the winter months, experimenting with new menus and preparing for the hectic summer months. We’ll be back with a blog in December about some rewarding charity work we’ve been involved with over the past year!

What our customers say

A few words from weddings, private parties and corporate events across Devon.

We're very grateful for the fantastic time we had with Dave's team. He met us and used our ideas and his experience to put together a fantastic meal for our wedding. The hog roast was great, and even catered for a few of our vegan friends.
